Event Promotion, Invitations and Cards

Client was looking for a rebrand of their event identity. In previous years emphasis was placed on mountain biking, but the event had grown into a festival that included hiking, yoga and live music and dancing. Buckelew also wanted to lean into their own brand colors, a vibrant mix of oranges and purples with a bit of a “Filmore” inspired look. Poster, invitation and both electronic and print ads were created.

For the annual gala fundraising event, we recognized the importance of establishing evergreen branding that would resonate year after year. The diamonds and denim theme emerged as a perfect fit for Sonoma County’s philanthropic community, while also holding significant conceptual relevance for the youth population served by SAY.

In this theme, we found a powerful metaphor: just like denim and diamonds, the youth we support are resilient and tough, yet also possess immense potential and value. They are like diamonds in the rough, needing support and guidance to shine brightly. This theme not only captured the spirit of our community but also underscored the transformative impact of SAY’s programs and services in helping youth succeed against adversity.

I designed the logo, invitation and event branding. I also designed the program/auction packet and managed all the printing for the event. I also created the PowerPoint presentations used during the event.

In 2021, SAY celebrated its 50th anniversary. Traditionally, the development year includes a spring gala event. However, the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic made gathering in April 2021 unsafe. As an organization known for its youthful spirit and innovative approach, we decided to host a drive-thru birthday event instead, inviting the entire community to join in the celebration.

From a design standpoint, the expansive color palette of SAY’s older logo, although occasionally challenging to work with, proved to be an asset in creating bold and vibrant branding for the event. This allowed us to capture the energy and vibrancy of SAY’s mission while honoring its rich history and legacy of service to the community.

I created a youthful, bright brand to cheer our community during this stressful time. I designed the print invitation utilizing a modified gate fold to incorporate SAY’s long timeline. I managed the printing of all the signage for the event, including large vinyl banners and “burma shave” style road signs sharing youth stories as participants left the event.

Theme: Making the unseen seen.

I created a “reveal” of the theme utilizing a belly band across a gate fold invitation. The belly band was blind embossed with the word “unseen” which covered the word “seen” on the right gate. The 650 figures represented the 650 youth in the homeless count.

To engage with a younger donor demographic, a free benefit concert was held following the 2019 Soirée Gala. To promote the event, three vibrant posters and a visually striking postcard were meticulously designed and strategically displayed throughout the county.

I designed and managed production of a number of cards for use by SAY’s executive and development teams.
